Letter to Mom
by Joy Curnutt
Mom, please don’t feel guilty
It was just my time to go.
I see you are still feeling sad,
And the tears just seem to flow.

We all come to earth for our lifetime,
And for some it’s not many years
I don’t want you to keep crying
You are shedding so many tears.

I haven’t really left you
Even though it may seem so.
I have just gone to my heavenly home,
And I’m closer to you than you know.

Just believe that when you say my name
I’m standing next to you,
I know you long to see me,
But there’s nothing I can do.

But I’ll still send you messages
And hope you understand,
That when your time comes to “cross over,”
I’ll be there to take your hand.

Bill's Site at the Family Cemetery

This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, William "Bill" McMahon IV who was born in Ferriday, Louisiana (Jeff Davis Memorial Hospital in Natchez, MS) on March 09, 1977 and passed away on November 17, 2007 at the age of 30. We will remember him forever.  Little Bill was delivered by Dr. William E. Godfrey II and his pediatrician was Dr. Donald Killelea, both of Natchez, MS.
His obituary:    William (“Little Bill”) James McMahon, IV was born on March 9, 1977 in Natchez, MS. He died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at a hunting camp on Dobbs Bay after having enjoyed a loving family early Thanksgiving celebration.

Bill went through the Ferriday School system from Pre-School until his graduation from Ferriday High School. Bill also attended Monterey High and Huntington School. Bill was so very blessed to have special teachers along the way whose compassion and kindness helped him blossom.

Bill played in the Dixie Youth League with all of his childhood buddies from Tee Ball through the Majors, making the All-Star team a number of times. He and his teammates would pile into the back of his momma’s Bronco and head out to the All-Star tournaments. He was lucky enough to be coached by his daddy and many wonderful family friends who instilled in him the love of the game. Bill and his teammates on both sides always looked forward to the hotdogs after each game, and they never even cared who had won.
Bill was an avid golfer and fisherman. He loved to go to Grand Isle with the Resweber family to fish and eat that great Cajun food. He grew up playing golf at Panola Woods with his daddy and later with his brother Ryan and their friends from Huntington. Bill won many trophies in golf and tennis and baseball. He loved the outdoors, camping, restoring his Mustang, and sitting around a campfire with his family and friends. Bill loved spending time with Tarra’s family whom he considered his family, too. Bill was quiet and introspective and warm and the best friend anyone could ever have. He loved deeply from his soul. He especially enjoyed hearing all the stories of the humorous antics of his childhood growing up in Woodland with his little brother, Ryan, and their many wonderful friends around the neighborhood. Little Bill would laugh the loudest when hearing the story told again of how he chopped up his brother’s First Birthday cake and then hid the knife in a shoe box.
Bill was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ferriday, LA. He was Baptized and Confirmed, received his First Holy Communion and was an altar server for many years. Bill grew up in the church. His first years were spent in the front of the church on his momma’s hip as she directed the church in song. He entertained himself by sticking his tootsie roll pop in his momma’s hair or by lying with his feet propped up on the altar eating sweet tarts. During high school, Bill worked at the church helping Sister Barbara Gooding with the altar and the bulletin.
He was employed by Evans Equipment and Environmental of Broussard, LA Bill worked with wonderfully supportive and understanding people.
Bill is preceded in death by his grandfather, J.T. Jacobs, Jr., and his great-grandparents, Stella and Lee Calhoun and Joshua and Lillian Jacobs.

Bill leaves to cherish his memory in their hearts forever and ever....his fiancé, Tarra Foreman, his momma, Sherrie Jacobs and his second momma, Rachel Resweber, both of Broussard, LA; his daddy, Bill McMahon and wife Linda of Bastrop; brother, Ryan Calhoun Jacobs McMahon of Baton Rouge; his grandmother, Maudine Calhoun Jacobs of Ferriday; his grandparents, Bill and Beverly McMahon, Staten Island, NY; his special family, Fonda and Bubba Collins of Coteau; uncles Jamie Jacobs and J.L. Jacobs and wife, Katherine, all of Ferriday; his aunt and uncle, Kevin and Noreen McMahon of Staten Island, NY; cousins, Jake Jacobs of Clayton, B.J. Jacobs of Vidalia; Nicole Jacobs of Ferriday, Stella Jacobs of Lafayette; Candace Jacobs Browning of Hattiesburg; Stephanie Jacobs, Harvey; Kevin McMahon and Cheryl McMahon of Staten Island, NY; great-aunt, Polly Jacobs Barnette; God-parents, Becky and Bubba Gremillion; and many, many other family and friends in St. Martinville, Coteau, Lafayette, Monterey, and Ferriday.

Another Year
by Brenda Penepent

Another year has come,
And you, so far away from me now;
But in my heart still.
Forever, I will hold you close.
Each smile, laugh and tear I’ve cried
A testament to your presence.
I will always love you,
No matter what happens.
Your death can not separate us.
I’m right here, loving you as always.
My heart is true and strong.
I will never forget your spirit.
I am no longer afraid.
To live or die is the same for me.
You are with me on this journey.
I raise your light to the heavens, and smile.

The Cord

We are connected, my child and I,
By an invisible cord not seen by the eye.

It's not like the cord that connects us at birth.
This cord can't be seen by any on earth.

The cord does it's work right from the start.
It binds us together, attached to my heart.

I know it's there, though no one can see -
The invisible cord from my child to me.

The strength of this cord, it's hard to describe.
It can't be destroyed. It can't be denied.

It's stronger than any cord man could create.
It withstands the test, and can hold any weight.

And though you are gone,
Though you're not here with me,
The cord is still there,
but no one can see.

It pulls at my heart...I am bruised...I am sore.
But this cord is my lifeline as never before.

I am thankful that God connects us this way.
A Mother and Child.......death can't take it away.

 Son

When you were born,
I felt a love so fierce,
that the thing that got between me and you
would surely be vanquished
to the far ends of the earth with just a look.

When you began to walk,
I hovered over you,
wanting to shield you
from the inevitable falls
you would take in finding your stride.

When you started school,
I stood fierce on the sidelines,
wanting you to return to hold me,
yet proud that you faced the uncertain
with an independent soul.

When you learned to drive,
I spent endless nights staying awake
until I heard your car tires
turn slowly over the gravel of the driveway
upon your safe return home.

When you left home to make your way in the world,
I felt an inexplicable fear
of losing you to something dark and hideous,
waiting to claim you for its own
before you left your mark upon the world.

When I think of all the times I could have,
should have pulled you back into the nest
and did not, I die a little inside.
It is only fitting I die a little.
A parent should not outlive a son.
